America’s most award-winning magazine comes to life in this new series executive produced by Oscar & Emmy winner Alex Gibney, Jigsaw Productions, and Condé Nast Entertainment. Premiering with ten new episodes, the series brings the pages of the magazine to life through short films based upon the reporting, fiction, humor, poetry, and cartoons that distinguish The New Yorker. The season features content from award-winning narrative directors and talent from the worlds of film, television, art, and music, and will debut provocative and insightful documentary films from America’s most acclaimed filmmakers.
From the origins of the September 11th attacks to the incarceration epidemic in America; from youth bull riders to a Mexican drag queen wrestler; from a rural nurse working with poor young mothers to a puppeteer who creates stage magic; The New Yorker Presents goes deep inside the story, illuminating moments that are provocative, entertaining, and revelatory.
The series showcases the work of celebrated non-fiction filmmakers such as Jonathan Demme, Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman, Steve James, Eugene Jarecki, Jesse Moss, Dawn Porter, Lucy Walker, Chapman & Maclain Way, Roger Ross Williams, and Alex Gibney himself.
Scripted short films are helmed by established directors, such as Troy Miller, Michael Slovis, Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini, as well as exciting new talents like Janicza Bravo and Teddy Blanks & Alex Karpovsky.
