Jigsaw Productions was founded by Academy Award®-winning director Alex Gibney, who describes himself, only slightly apologetically, as a “filmmaker with journalistic baggage.”

And that is the ethos we bring to our work. We tell true stories, scrupulously researched and visually arresting. Our film and television projects reveal the sources of power which want to be discreet and hidden and make them visible. We explore the complex, dark influences that shape America and the world – from dodgy pharmaceutical companies to corrupt politicians and accounting frauds – and render them into dramatic stories with compelling characters.

No matter the subject, Jigsaw’s stories seek to answer the question of what shapes us as human beings, and why? We call out abuses of power and wonder how things could be different than the way they are.

And we don’t just tell stories about the people ruining the world, we also tell stories celebrating the people who are shaping it in exciting ways – musicians, psychedelic explorers, chefs, and athletes.

Working with more than 85 directors over the last ten years, we made our name producing some of the world’s most acclaimed documentaries, including Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, which won three Emmy awards and a DuPont Columbia Award, and was one of the most watched documentaries in HBO’s history; the Oscar®- and Emmy Award-winning Taxi to the Dark Side; and the Oscar®-nominated Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (Please see our projects, and awards). In recent years, we’ve branched out into scripted features and series, and investigative podcasts.
